Why is a urine culture requested?

A urine culture is performed to determine whether bacteria are present in the urine and, if so, which antibiotics they are sensitive to. It is particularly important in cases of recurrent infections, male patients, pregnancy, urinary tract infections with a fever, or symptoms that persist despite treatment.
