What can intermittent urination mean?
Intermittent urination is a condition where urine does not flow continuously and smoothly. The person may feel that the flow stops and restarts while urinating, that they have difficulty initiating urination, or that the bladder does not empty completely.
What are the possible causes?
In men, an enlarged prostate, urethral stricture, bladder outlet obstruction, prostatitis, or insufficient strength of bladder muscles can cause this symptom. In some cases, medications used or problems related to the nervous system can also affect urine flow.
What symptoms can accompany it?
Weak urine flow, difficulty initiating urination, post-void dribbling, nocturia (waking up at night to urinate), frequent urination, and a feeling of fullness in the bladder can be seen together.

Frequently asked questions
Can intermittent urination be a symptom of prostate problems?
Yes, especially in older men, it can be associated with an enlarged prostate. However, prostate is not the only cause; urethral stricture or bladder function problems should also be evaluated.
Will this symptom go away on its own?
In some temporary situations, it may subside, but if it recurs or urine flow gradually weakens, a urological evaluation is necessary.
